day 80, Happy's Inn, MT 46 miles

After some construction just west of Kalispell, we found the historic route of the Great Northern RR, now a beautiful rail trail. That took us past Kila, where we turned back onto Rt. 2 and rode through some well-managed timber country. The multitude of logging trucks that passed us were all very well behaved. Soon we were at the Thompson chain of lakes and Logan state park, where we called it a day.

The beautifully clear night was interrupted once by the wail of a loon, and the second time by the cry of my bladder. On the way to the restroom I admired the great display of stars on this moonless night, and spotted a shooting star - then I remembered it was August 11th! The annual Perseid meteor showers! I would have watched for more if it hadn't been so cold out!
