day 83, Sandpoint, IDAHO!!!! 51 miles,(3732 total)

Finally arrived for our short stint into Idaho (we're up in the "panhandle"), riding along the north shore of very blue and big Lake Pend Orielle. We stopped in Clarks Fork for breakfast at "Mom's", our first real breakfast since our stay with Bud and Anne in Clinton, MT. A relatively flat ride with an early start brought us to Sandpoint before 1 pm, and plus we realized we had to set our watches back an hour due to the time change at the border. So what to do for 3 hours before we could check into our motel.............we quickly learned of a "fly in" at the airport (we had noticed the skies were very busy on the ride in) so we rode over to check it out. Many vintage biplanes, Pipers and Cessnas were on display and available for rides. I was happy just to look and drool on them. I had built flying balsa wood models of several of them when I was a kid.

From there we continued on down to the bike shop, where we stocked up on hopefully our last tube of "Butt Butter" (like liquid gold and priced that way too). the bike seems to be holding up very well.

After a visit to the generic Dairy Queen, we made our way to the Ho-Jo's Motel and I managed a 6 - point turn to get the fully loaded tandem into the lobby to unload. Usually we can wheel it right into the room if it has a outside door and on the first floor. When I get home I may go to the DMV to see if they'll give credit for a tractor-trailer license for my efforts.

One last note from yesterday: we saw our first wolf. It crossed the road a few hundred yards in front of us. Stephanie had been moaning all day about her butt being sore and I think the predator had mistaken her for a stressed out, wounded animal wanting to be put out of it's misery. I'll let you interpret that how you like.

  1. Idaho!! Woo hoo! Went to the summer concert series tonight. Eli wanted to make friends with everyone....including the dogs. After an hour of chasing him around the green and keeping him from eating everyone's food we put him back in the wagon and headed home.....a contained area to play.

  2. It was great hearing from you last night...the boys are doing good, think we are going to do more SHOPPING today (with Andrew this time). You'll definitely need a job when you get back. Zack's been filling out applications for EVERY place that he stopped into on Friday (at least 30 applications so far), so hopefully someone will call him for a job. Don't worry he will be looking on campus too...but, just in case, he wants to have choices. I can't wait to see all the pictures of your trip! The ones that you posted were great...what an album this is going to make!!
    love,
