Day 57, Walden, CO 62 miles

The morning broke cold and rainy, but in an hour the showers had ended, the sun was warming us, and a steady tail wind was propelling us up and over Muddy Pass, elevation 8772', our second of six crossings over the continental divide. There we stopped for lunch and to enjoy the beautiful views and wildflowers. Also prominent just a few miles away were the namesake spires of "Rabbit Ears" Pass. Then it was a mostly downhill 35 miles to Walden, passing ranches in the north park with 360 degree mountain views! On the way we met Dave and Carol, also doing the transAm east to west. We all plan to camp in the city park tonight (along with Derek) and maybe go out to dinner together.

As I type this at the Walden library, we are waiting out a mountain thunderstorm that is brewing outside, with strong gusty winds! Glad we got on the road early this morning!

  3. Happy Birthday!! We remember yours because it is also Shelley and Bruce's anniversary. Just got home from a stay with all the family at a cabin in Pigeon Forge. You are both doing great and enjoy your blogs. Don't set off any forest fires out there with all those candles and I'm sure you'll have a few extra chocolate milk shakes to celebrate.
