The first half of the day we flew over gently rolling terrain aided by a nice tailwind. By late morning the hills returned. so we stopped in Walnut Grove at a nice diner for a burger and pie and to take a breather. They're putting in a new town sewer system here to re-enact the little known episode of "little house on the prairie". Remember?, the one where Laura finds the gold nugget down by the creek and she wants to trade it for some orthodontic work on her overbite so Almonzo will ask her to the harvest dance? ANyway, at the last minute she comes to her senses and gives it to Pa who uses it to fund the public works sewage project, bringing economic stimulus relief to the fair city of Walnut Grove.
After several more hills, we pulled into Everton, proud home to the "shaven beaver" bar and grill. We've been informed that we have unfortunately missed the weekly Jello wrestling matches by a few days (saturday nights).
Just out of town we've checked into our lodging, the plush accomodations at "Running Spring Farm", a pheasant hunting preserve with a beautiful rustic lodge which makes our old shack in Eaton look like a dive!
I don't know Mike and Steph .... you need a couple of days off. Maybe you should stick around for the jello wrestling matches.

Hey Mike & Steph,
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence that you went to a bar with the same name as our next hunting cabin. Sweet.
By the way, you two have competition for craziest mid-life crisis of the summer ... I met this guy today. He is rolling the Earth from Washington D.C. to Acadia.
