day 73, Jackson, MT 49 mi (3264 total)

Still blessed by great weather. After another great experience at the local diner for breakfast (this time Sparky's Garage), we began our long assault on Badger Pass. After that was conquered, we enjoyed a brief respite in the saddle before Big Hole Pass. By the time we crested that at7360' we were pretty well whipped. Thank goodness it was all downhill from there into the beautiful and spacious "big hole" valley, where we've checked into our cabin at Jackson Lodge/bar/restaurant/hot springs/campground/etc.

It was these hot springs that Lewis and Clark used to "par-boil" some meat. After dinner with Dave & Carole we may try to tenderize our legs if the water has cooled down some after yesterdays cleeaning. The refill temperature is 140 F .

OK ... time to loosen up the collar on that sweaty Alaska shirt. Wyoming was 400 miles ago. You are in MONTANA. :D Kind of reminds me of the time you thought you were in the Big Buck woods when you were really in the Carpet Tree.

  2. Mike, I noticed on the map that there is a town called Wisdom just north of your present encampment. If your route takes you through that town, would you please pick some up for me? I could use it.

    Thanks!

BTW, I've really enjoyed following your trek accross the country. Keep up the good work.
