day 76, Clinton, MT (30 miles)

Bade farewell to Dave and Carole after breakfast, a sad moment but we are hoping they will come and visit us in NY this fall.

Had no trouble finding the Adventure Cycling headquarters in Missoula, where we spent 2 hours enjoying their treasure trove of all things cycling, including antique and historic bikes. maps. books, gear, clothing, and pictures - including polaroids of all thru cyclists from this summer (many of whom we recognized). The extremely helpful gals manning the office also gave us some advice on the upcoming leg of our journey.

BETween Missoula and Clinton we met a very young couple on a recumbent tandem. They were from Northampton, MA and were doing a modified version of the northern tier route.

In no time we found the home of Bud and Ann Wilcox, who welcomed us with open arms (carrying refreshments and goodies!). We were soon joined by their good friends, bearing gifts of vine-ripened garden tomatoes and cucumbers, . With the addition of Ann's delicious stew, we had a memorable dinner out on their front lawn. We also had the pleasure of meeting their grandson and great-grandchildren, who joined us for dessert!j

  2. Make sure you give Bud and Ann and huge hug from the Seattle gang. I loved seeing them last month -- they're just as spunky as ever. Be careful, though, Ann will weigh you down with wonderful food and insist you carry care packages which will be impossible to resist, and Bud will entertain you with long wonderful stories that last days so you won't be able to leave the place. That's actually OK, since several of the Seattle gang will be gone the next couple of weeks. So, go ahead and rest up for the last stretch ahead.
