Day 46, Scott City, KS 56 miles (2083 total)

A nice day of riding. Very light winds, cool temps (70's), with a refreshing sprinkle thrown in. A big improvement over yesterday, which included a nasty headwind at times and a steady rain. We did stop at Fort Larned and had a great tour of the restored post-civil war era fort, built to keep "peace" between the Plains Indians and the white man.

We have been and will be traveling due west into Colorado (by Saturday). It's very desolate country, with a town sporting a massive grain elevator about every 25 miles. Services are far and few between, so we make sure we have plenty of water and snacks. Wheat and cattle are the economy, with oil wells pumping here and there. We hardly notice the grade, but we are slowing climbing, and when we reach Pueblo we should be close to 5000'.

Stephanie believes when I have library access, my blogs are a little on the long-winded side. So I need your input: short and to the point, or do you prefer that I ramble on a bit?

  1. I love the details ... so go ahead ... tell all. some of your stories are funny, so i look forward to them. Also, by putting in these quirky encounters you have them recorded. You won't remember them later, so you might as well record them while they happened. It's always interesting to go back and read what you wrote earlier to get a feel how you felt and reacted to your experiences. Don't feel guilty. It doesn't take long to read them.
