Upon leaving Scott City, we had breakfast at the "Broiler", and feasted on the world's biggest cinnamon roll - a meal in itself! If you've ever seen those pathetic "Texas" cinnamon rolls in convenient stores, this one would have come from Alaska!
Another beautiful day for cycling. Under partly sunny skies we cruised due west through endless wheatfields into Tribune and the Rocky Mountain Time zone! Several caravans of custom harvesters passed us on their way to yet unharvested wheat here ithe western part of the state.
On the way we met Mark, on a fully loaded bike headed to Maine. Starting in San Francisco, he had swung down into Utah to explore Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. He had just lightened his load by shipping his backpack home. We shared a few reflections on our journeys thus far.
The skies are buzzing with low flying crop-dusting planes today. We enjoyed the antics of one as he swooped over us making his U turns for each new pass through his field.
Tribune is about as "country" as you can get. WHen we first arrived, we thought it peculiar that every pickup truck was playing the same radio station very loudly. Then we realized that on each light post in town there is a speaker broadcasting the local country music radio station!
We have swam, showered, and set up camp at the city park. As I type this we are multi-tasking at the truck stop: eating pizza and drinking beer while washing our clothes at the laundrymat(located IN the truckstop! Isn't America great?)
Great work Mike and Steph! Sounds like you're having a ball. I'm at the Oregon Country Fair but had to cruise to Eugene and poach some Starbucks WiFi to check on your progress. Love, Eric L.
