A quick, easy day down the Bitterroot valley. After eating half of my "Spud Special" breakfast at Deb's Diner before rolling out of Darby (the other half made for a great picnic lunch near Florence) we took advantage of a steady tailwind to cover 25 miles in just under 90 minutes. Then the wind began to swing around from the east, but the pleasure of riding on the 16 mile paved bike path into Lolo made it more bearable.
Tonight will unfortunately be our last night to enjoy Dave and Carole's company (who at this moment are still on the road battling the now headwind). Tomorrow they will continue on the "transam" route west into Idaho, whlile we continue north to Missoula and beyond to connect with the "northern tier" route into Washington. The next few evenings would be awfully lonely if it weren't for a date I have with a certain New Holland hay baler with a troublesome knotter. More on that later.

Welcome to Lolo! Looks like we missed you by exactly a month. The Traveler's Rest Park is worth a visit but not at the expense of a visit to the Dairy Queen for a large twist dipped in chocolate. Keep going - Washington is not too far away.

You didn't say where you were staying, but the boys and I stayed at the Days Inn Lodge in Lolo exactly 5 minutes away from where Chris + family and Steve+family etc. were staying. Although the Days Inn was right on the 'highway', it was quiet enough. If you go to the Dairy Queen, try the Buster Bar. give Bud and Anne a BIG hello from Seattle.

RE: hay baler fix
ReplyDeleteIf I recall right, you'll need a 7/16, a 9/16 end wrench and a jack knife. But I'm sure you remember better than I do. GOOD LUCK.
You both are looking great and we enjoy following you daily.
