day 61, rawlins to muddy gap, WY 46 miles

Another day of constant stiff winds out of the west meant some difficult pedaling for us. The south central portion of WY IS wide open and there is nothing to stop the wind! WE did manage to cross the continental divide for the 3rd and 4th time. We also rode for 15 unbelievably straight and flat miles across the Great Divide Basin.

Our only lodging option for the night was the "campground" bbehind the Muddy Gap convenient store. No showers, and bathrooms were to be available when the store was open. By 7 am the next AM, (the posted opening time) Stephanie was pacing back and forth by the door, with contorted looks on her face. By 7:30 she resrted to drastic measures, and began blowing loudly on her doggie whistle to awaken the owners (who live upstairs). When they finally unlocked the door, she practically knocked it off the hinges!

While hanging out at the campground, we met 7 other cyclists, all headed east. It was great trading stories with them and getting tips from them on where to stay. One of them was on a fully loaded recumbent, wait til my brother Steve gets the picture of that!
