Now that we have a few weeks of cycling behind us (including some beyond category climbs in the Appalachians) we would like to share our secrets on cycling nutrition. The core of our diet revolves the Four Building Blocks: bacon, eggs, ketchup, and chocolate milk - lots of chocolate milk. Sort of like the food pyramid in the shape of Mesa Verde.
I can't believe the amount of liquid we are going through in the hills and heat! Besides the 4- 24 oz water bottles. we also carry a one gallon jug which we fill for areas with few services on route. Every other bottle we add some gatorade powder, which has prevented leg cramps on all but the longest, hottest day.
We camped at My Old Kentucky campground about 10 years ago. Very nice.
