Day 19 Hindman, Ky

70 miles. 3 unrelenting hill climbs totaling almost 4000 feet. Many cyclists consider it the toughest day on the entire TransAm trail. We arrived here at the Knott County Historical Society's Cyclists Hostel at dusk after waiting out a violent T-storm. It is a cyclist's heaven on earth. Dave met us with tall glasses of ice tea and that was only the beginning. After a glorious hot shower and delivered pizza, we feasted on Dave's renowned baked sweet potatoes, drizzled with pure maple syrup and topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream! Did we forget to mention the ice cream sundaes that followed? After a some great conversation by the fire, we passed out on the pre-inflated one-foot thick air mattresses. This is a definite don't miss for all you aspiring Trans-Am'ers out there, we starting hearing about it from passing cyclists beginning about 100 miles from the state line! I'd love to go on but Dave has breakfast waiting for us out on the patio............

  4. Judging from google maps, I don't see a very straight line from Breaks Interstate Park to Hindman. I'm amazed you guys don't get lost. Good job on 70 miles and 3 hills -- my quads hurt just thinking about it. Where and when did you hit the t-storm? Saw them developing yesterday and worried about you guys. Glad to hear you were smart and got off the road. Hope the bike lasts the rest of the trip.

Hope there are more Daves out there with baked sweet potatoes and ice cream sundaes. Have a great time.

    Lynn
